We Love Our Volunteers!
Our volunteers at Tejas are exceptional. They do not come to Tejas to get, but rather to give through their time and service. We are thankful that we get to work for the Lord alongside you, playing our part in His Kingdom building together.
Tejas Camp & Retreat Center
May 20, 2017 from 9am-4pm
Pool open for volunteers from 3-5pm
Help Tejas 'Splash into Summer' at our next Serve Day! Individuals, families, or groups all welcome. The splash will cause a ripple through the lives of all those that join us during the summer season. Some of the service projects include:
- Building bunk beds
- Moving mattresses
- Transitioning conference rooms
Serve Days at Tejas Camp & Retreat Center are designated times during the year when your church group, organization, or family can volunteer your time and talents and help our ministry complete projects. Any age can volunteer, but anyone under the age of 15 must volunteer with an adult.
From 9am-4pm we'll be working on some essential projects that we need your help with. Lunch is provided and everyone who comes to work will also get a Tejas Serve Day hat to keep! When we're finishied, there is usually enough time for you and your family to experience the zip line, giant swing, or other fun activities that are open that day. To let us know your coming, please fill out the Serve Day volunteer form online.
Upcoming Serve Days:
First Annual Serve Weekend!
For the first time ever our final preparation weekend before Lights of Tejas will be an entire serve weekend. All volunteers receive free overnight lodging on Friday and Saturday nights in a private room and all meals from Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast. We will have a gingerbread house building contest and movie on Saturday evening. Some of the service projects include:
- Decorating conference rooms
- Hanging Christmas lights
- Setting up venues
Extended Stay Volunteers
When: September-December and January-April
We have many volunteer groups, such as the SOWERS, Texas Baptist Men, Volunteer Christian Builders, and RVICs, stay with us for weeks at a time. They usually get to concentrate their efforts on larger projects at Tejas.
The Lord has blessed us with the help of so many wonderful volunteers. Volunteers are responsible for over half of the labor on our projects. They have become a vital part of the ministry of Tejas as so much would not get done without them.
If your group or family is interested in volunteer opportunities at Tejas, contact Mike Newton or call 979-366-2422.
Lights of Tejas
When: Thanksgiving Weekend Through December 29
Lights of Tejas is a family-oriented Christmas light festival with fun games, activities, a Christmas light show, food, and over 1 million lights. If your group is looking for a way to give back this Christmas season, we'd love to have you volunteer at Lights of Tejas!
Join us for a night of fun, excitement, and serving Christ in this ministry! Volunteering can be a great family bonding experience. Any age can volunteer, but anyone under the age of 15 must volunteer with an adult.
Volunteers for Lights of Tejas receive a free supper, a special viewing of the Indoor Light Show, and are welcome to stay the night for free. Lodging is separate male and female bunkhouses and we also offer room upgrades for $70.00 per private room (one room typically sleeps 4-6). Free breakfast for those that spend the night is provided in the Dining Hall between 8:00am-10:00am. (Breakfast will not be served on December 13, 23, and 29.)
Volunteers should arrive around 3:00 pm or before and then be in the Chapel at 4:00 pm for a short meeting. We will eat supper following the meeting, and then everyone will report to their assigned stations. Tejas staff will be supervising and walking around the entire event, so no worries if you need something.
