I thought about writing a bit of an elaborate post to expound on the deeper theological meanings of these lyrics, but the reality is that this song really speaks to the redemptive work Christ finished on the cross. I think adding my own thoughts wouldn’t really add anything of substance, so instead just listen and worship to John Mark McMillan's "Death In His Grave".

So I got new glasses this past week. I’ll spare you the whole story-just know that I should’ve had something in or on my eyes for quite a while now. I knew my eyes were bad, but I guess I didn’t realize how bad.

Hymns have not disappeared from the modern worship platform, but I think it would be fair to say they make less frequent appearances on the Sunday morning set lists than they did a decade or so ago. We recently sang “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” during one of staff chapel services. It’s one of my all-time favorite hymns. The lyrics sooth, quicken, and challenge me.
